Budget Friendly Spring Break Idea: National Parks

Are you looking for a budget-friendly spring break idea? If so, look no further than your local National Park Service site. The nation’s National Park Service system provides dozens of low cost and even free spring break destination options.

Multi-Park Admission Passes

Depending on your destination, you may be able to save money by buying a multiple park admission pass. For example, a $25 pass purchased at Yellowstone National Park grants access to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks for seven days.

Military Pass

The America the Beautiful pass provides active military personnel and their dependents free access to both National Park Service sites as well as U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service locations that charge an entrance fee. For more information about this pass, visit the USGS America The Beautiful webpage.

Free Entrance Days

Even though entrance fees for many National Park Service sites are reasonable, the weekend of April 18-19, 2015 will be fee free to celebrate the opening weekend of National Park Week. If your Spring Break coincides with National Park Week, take advantage of these savings.

Fee Free Destinations

There are many fee free destinations operated by the National Park Service. Visitors to Canyon de Chelly, located in Northern Arizona, can view the scenic overlooks or hike the White House Trail at no cost. Another scenic fee-free destination is the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Spend a little time researching options on the National Park Service site to find fee-free destinations.
