National Teacher’s Day is Tuesday, May 5, 2015 and while many families opt for gift cards or extra school supplies, some families choose homemade gifts instead. My daughter decided to go the do-it-yourself route this year and made this cute DIY recycled pencil holder for National Teacher’s Day.

DIY Recycled Pencil Holder for Teachers

Supplies

Clean tin can (i.e. soup can)
Box of crayons
Glue or rubber cement
Rubber band
Ribbon

Instructions

1.    Remove the label from a tin food can, like a soup can; thoroughly clean it out and let the can dry completely.

2.    Attach ribbon to the top and bottom edges of the can using glue.

3.    Affix the crayons around the outside of the tin food can using glue or rubber cement.

4.    Securely attach a rubber band around the crayons until the glue completely dries, preferably overnight.

5.    Tie a ribbon around the new pencil holder, covering the rubber band.

6.    Attach a homemade thank you note and deliver to your child’s teacher on National Teacher’s Day.

What is your favorite DIY recycled teacher’s gift?
