Clean out your pantry

Are you hosting luncheons or dinners this holiday season? If so, you’re going to see an influx in food items take over your refrigerator and pantry. Before you even make a shopping list for your holiday festivities, though, set aside some time to clean out your pantry.

•    Empty and clean the pantry: Take everything out of the pantry and put it on one of your kitchen counters or the table. Once your pantry is empty, clean it with a towel and a good cleaner like Scrubbing Bubbles® All Purpose Cleaner Lemon Power with fantastik®. If any of your food items have gotten dusty, dust them off before continuing.

•    Pack a donation box: Before you begin to put the items back in your pantry, pack a food donation box for your local food bank or shelter. If you’re unsure what items are needed, call your charity of choice to find out what type of food items are most in demand.

•    Reload your pantry: Now that your pantry is clean and you have a box of food ready to donate to your local charity, it is time to reload your pantry. Most of this process involves personal preference, but a good rule of thumb is to organize items in similar groups with the nearest expiration dates up front.

•    Create your holiday shopping list: Now that you know what is in your pantry, create your holiday food shopping list. You won’t be stuck with half a dozen cans of chicken stock because you know you already have a couple of cans on hand.

Are you hosting a holiday dinner this year? If so, what’s your favorite pantry-cleaning tip?
