DIY Faux Floral Wall Hanging

Sep 30, 2016

Recently, I was cleaning out my craft closet and realized how many extra faux flowers I had left over from projects and holidays. Wanting to re-purpose rather than getting rid of them, I began brainstorming ways I could use the extra fabric blooms. The idea to create a wall hanging for my daughter’s room came to mind. I was able to make this project with only materials I had on hand!

  • Cardboard box
  • Scissors
  • Paint (optional)
  • Faux flowers
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon

I started by cutting the letter “T” out of a cardboard box for my daughter’s name. Of course, you can choose whichever letter you prefer! I painted a quick layer of pink paint on it just in case the cardboard pops out through the flowers, however you can skip this step if you don’t want to deal with the mess. If you paint your letter, choose a paint (or spray paint) color that compliments the color of your flowers.

While the paint was drying, I trimmed the flowers from the stems using sturdy wire cutters. You’ll need enough flowers to cover your entire letter so keep that in mind when planning your project. You can make your letter as big or small as you’d like.

Next, I heated up my hot glue gun and attached each flower to the cardboard until the entire surface was covered. Lastly, I attached a piece of ribbon to the back of the “T” allowing me to hang it on a wall or door handle in my daughter’s room.

This would be a great DIY to make for your child’s room, a dorm room, or even as party décor. Make one letter or an entire name or phrase! Get creative with your leftover supplies and see what you can come up with.
