Summer will soon be upon us and with it delicious garden produce. Whether you grow your own fruits and vegetables, or simply enjoy stocking up each week at your local farmer’s market, you will enjoy crafting with this beautiful, vintage gardening artwork.

I have compiled eight of my favorite public domain, copyright-free images and digitized them for your use. To access the images, simply click on the numbered links corresponding to the designs numbered in the image below. Then save to your computer for future use. I have included some of my favorite crafts for these fun designs below.

Ideas for crafting with vintage vegetable images:

Bag printed with clip art

Using digital image software (many are free to download from the internet) you can add personalized text and borders to an illustration. I customized patches for small totes with our family name and printed them to iron-on transfer sheets. Then, following the manufacturer’s instruction for ironing the image, I adhered the sheets to small canvas totes that I could fill with vegetables form our garden to share our harvest with neighbors. In this one, I used decorative edge scissors to cut out one sheet to resemble a large postage stamp. The vegetable images are also perfect for transferring to a canvas apron for gardening or cooking.

If you don’t want to digitally modify the images, you can print the iron-on sheets and then hand-write your name or personalize with a permanent marker.

Another idea is to print clip art designs for labeling large Ziploc® Brand Bags or canning jars full of vegetables to store for the winter. You can also use a label to cover your garden journal.

For postcards and recipe cards, print images to cardstock, four to a page.

Upload your modified clip art to an online printing website for ordering printed t-shirts, cups, totes and other custom items.

What summer fruits and vegetables are you most looking forward to enjoying?
