Homemade Sculpting Putty

Jul 26, 2016

Most children have an abundance of free time during the summer months. Nice days offer kids plenty of time to go outside and play, but heat and rain can have them stuck inside for hours at a time.

Rather than turning on the television or handing them their favorite electronic device, why not let them spend some time being creative instead? Sculpting putty has been a favorite of children for decades, but you don't need to buy it at the store! This homemade sculpting putty recipe creates an incredibly soft texture and requires only two ingredients for the basic recipe.  Add some glitter, food coloring or essential oils to the dough for added color, sparkle and scent if you’re feeling extra inspired.

Homemade Extra Soft Sculpting Putty

  • 1 cup hair conditioner (the cheaper the better!)
  • 2 cups cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon glitter (optional)
  • 5 to 6 drops of food coloring (optional)

Place the cornstarch in a medium bowl.

Add the conditioner and optional ingredients, if using, and mix completely

Once your child has finished playing with the putty, it will last longer if you store it in a medium Ziploc® Brand Container.

What’s your child’s favorite thing to make with sculpting putty?
