New parents are often overwhelmed by all the different choices of baby product brands. And when you’re having a baby, the last thing you want to deal with is figuring out what the best options are for your little ones. Here are some green tips for new parents to help keep it all in perspective. Going green can help you simplify and save resources and money.
Many shopping lists developed by stores for new parents have more items than you could ever need. I suggest printing out a list and going over it with some other new moms to help narrow it down to the necessities.
Whenever possible, use products that can be reused. You can choose to buy cloth bibs, nursing pads, wipes and burping pads. The downside is that you will probably have to do an extra load of laundry, but it still saves a ton of resources, and personally I always enjoyed the feel of cloth. Many of these items can be bought second hand to save money, and when your child out grows them you can usually resell them for a bit of cash.
3. Green Feeding
When your child is ready for solids, try making your own baby food. It’s easier than you think! If you buy baby formula or baby food, try to reuse the containers. There are all kinds of nifty uses for the little glass bottles and formula tins.
4. Green Nursery
When selecting products for the nursery, don’t rule out purchasing things second-hand. This not only reuses resources, but can save you some money. However, it’s crucial to give furniture a thorough inspection and do research to ensure the products meet current safety standards.
These green tips for new parents should help you minimize your impact on the environment while watching your little one grow. Most importantly, enjoy this special time with your baby!
