This easy Egg Carton Pumpkin Craft Project can make upcycling fun for kids! Crafting is a great way to spend a chilly, October afternoon. With Halloween quickly approaching, getting into the spooky spirit of the holiday is a fun activity to keep kids busy. Crafting is always more eco-friendly when you can take things you find around your home and turn them into something new. Not to mention, the money you can save when you aren’t buying expensive ‘craft kits’ sold at specialty stores. Other than a cardboard egg carton, you’ll only need a few simple supplies, so it shouldn’t cost too much to get started.
If you are looking for easy Halloween crafts for kids, why not teach them a lesson about upcycling at the same time?
Egg Carton Pumpkin Supplies:
- Cardboard egg carton
- Orange paint
- Paint brush
- Black permanent marker or paint pen
- Brown and green pipe cleaners for stem and leaf
Egg Carton Pumpkin Directions:
Cut out two individual sections of the egg carton with scissors. Trim the edges so they fit together rather easily.
Paint each section orange and let dry.
Carefully poke a hole in the top of one section of the egg carton, take five inches in length of the brown pipe cleaner and fold in half to make a loop, and then pull the loop through the hole. Knot or twist together the two ends of the brown pipe cleaner on the inside of the egg carton to ensure the loop is fastened and will not pull through.
After you make the brown loop, take three inches in length of the green pipe cleaner. Next, bend the green pipe cleaner into a smaller loop and pull through the same hole as the brown pipe cleaner to form your green stem. Again, knot or twist together the two ends of the green pipe cleaner on the inside of the egg carton to fasten.
Carefully glue the two halves of egg carton together and let dry.
Once it’s dry, paint or draw a face on your pumpkin.
