At SC Johnson, we're committed to giving back to the communities where we live and work.
At SC Johnson, we invest in more than just our products. We're committed to the communities where we live and work. That’s why in 1979, after more than 40 years of informal giving, we formalized our commitment to donate annually to charitable causes. Three decades later, we proudly continue that practice.
Five percent of pre-tax profits goes to corporate giving – nearly four times the corporate average. At the subsidiary level, companies aim to contribute up to 2% of pre-tax profits. In the past 10 years, SC Johnson has given more than $180 million in philanthropic contributions around the world.
Leadership in Every Community
In the 70 countries where SC Johnson has operations around the world, we aim for each SC Johnson company to:
- Demonstrate senior management leadership in the community through the General Manager holding at least one board-level membership with a major local community nonprofit organization.
- Promote and coordinate at least one significant employee volunteer effort in the community each year.
- Give to local charities at a target of up to 2% of pre-tax profits.

The result is stronger communities. In recent years, our companies have supported a school lunch program in Thailand, assisted a Czech Down Syndrome organization in providing rehabilitation and exercise to beneficiaries, offered scholarships to local children in Argentina, and enabled the purchase of the first MRI machine at Brantford General Hospital in Canada.
The SC Johnson Fund, Inc.
Our charitable arm, the SC Johnson Fund, Inc. was established in 1959 to provide grants supporting a wide array of needs. It has provided millions of dollars to organizations working to improve quality of life in the communities where we operate.
The Fund is managed by a board of trustees made up of Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson and employee volunteers.
The Generosity of Our People
We take pride in the generosity of our employees. While the company gives back to its communities, our employees give of their time and money, too.
For example, our 2008 United Way campaign in the United States raised $902,294 in employee contributions. With a match by the SC Johnson Fund, Inc, we provided community support of more than $1.8 million.
