In the wake of a natural disaster, there’s always a danger that survivors will become victims of insect-borne diseases. Standing water from flooding or other water damage is an especially dangerous breeding ground for mosquitoes that can carry diseases like malaria, dengue or West Nile virus.

As the #1 marketer of insect repellents worldwide, we can help. By distributing free repellents, as well as cleaning products, we hope to help families focus on rebuilding their lives without constantly fighting mosquitoes or fearing the diseases they may carry.

Here are just a few examples of how we lend a hand across the globe:

Following the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, SC Johnson donated 5,000 units of OFF!® repellents to help protect relief personnel working to protect the Gulf coast line. The company also awarded a grant to assist the National Wildlife Refuge Association in responding to the wildlife and habitat impacts of the spill.

Following the devastating earthquake in China in May 2008, SC Johnson made a $50,000 contribution to organizations supporting victims, including the Red Cross. SC Johnson China company also rushed cases of Raid® coils and OFF!® repellents to the Sichuan province to help protect those who had lost their homes as well as those working on relief efforts. In addition, our people in China donated more than $20,000 to the relief effort. By June 2008, the company globally had contributed more than $165,000 in support for those affected by the earthquake.

In July 2008, following catastrophic floods in the U.S. Midwest, we contributed more than 23,500 personal insect repellents to protect flood victims from bites during cleanup and recovery efforts. The OFF!® brand donates about $200,000 in product and financial contributions each year, in the U.S. alone, to help keep people protected from mosquitoes that may carry the West Nile virus.
