Pursuing Zero Landfill

We're constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to limit waste from our operations.

SC Johnson continues to work toward zero landfill. To achieve zero landfill status, SC Johnson manufacturing sites are required to reuse, recycle or eliminate material that would otherwise have been sent to a landfill. For waste that cannot be reused, recycled or eliminated, incineration and heat recovery may be an option.

To date, we have transitioned more than 65% of our global production sites, including office and manufacturing, to zero manufacturing waste to landfill operations. Today, 17 SC Johnson sites are zero manufacturing waste to landfill and 14 of those sites are zero waste to landfill.

In 2011, we established a new five-year waste and emissions reduction goal, building on the improvements made since 2006. We aimed to reduce global manufacturing combined air emissions, water effluents and solid waste by 70%.

We reached that target three years ahead of schedule. Today, we have less than 0.4 kilograms of manufacturing waste per 100 kilograms of product shipped. We have reduced global manufacturing waste by 79%.
