Philanthropy in Action: Gateway

Here's an example of a program supported by SC Johnson that's made a positive impact in our hometown area of Southeastern Wisconsin.

focus for SC Johnson's philanthropic contributions are education and community/economic development, and February 2013 provided a great example of an effort that supports both.

That's when Gateway Technical College opened its expanded SC Johnson Integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (iMET) Center in Sturtevant, Wisconsin.

The Center includes training in computer numerical control (CNC) machining, welding, metal fabrication, automated manufacturing systems and industrial robotics. We were thrilled to be part of bringing the Center's expansion to life.

"Through their programming and hands-on learning approach, Gateway brings much needed, well-prepared graduates to the local workforce, strengthening the overall quality of life and economy of the area."

Building on our nearly 20-year partnership with Gateway, over the 10 months leading up to the expanded iMET Center opening, SC Johnson contributed $1.7 million to Gateway. The funds went to support Gateway programming, including the iMET Center expansion and programming, such as Gateway's high-impact manufacturing-related boot camp.

The nearly 18,000-square-foot addition, which brings the facility to 61,000 square feet, features the College's first Fab Lab, focused on industrial design and rapid prototyping; Gateway's engineering technology education programs; and CNC and welding and fabrication boot camp accelerated training.

We believe in making a difference in our communities through volunteerism.
