Host Gift: Rolling Pin Recipes | Family Economics
By Cathe Holden
My husband is the master baker in our house. He picks and prepares seasonal fruits all year long and turns them into pie fillings, freezing each portion in the gallon-size Ziploc® Brand Slider Storage and Freezer Bags with the Smart Zip® Seal. He always packs frozen fillings in a cooler to take camping and then bakes his pies in a Dutch oven over hot coals for the best outdoor desserts. At home, he not only bakes pies for our family, but also brings them along when having dinner at a friend’s home.
In my opinion, an important part of being a gracious dinner guest is to bring along an offering such as a pie, small potted herb or something handmade. Since I am more skilled at crafts than baking, I’ve created an offering that is just as welcome during the fall and winter months -- a rolling pin wrapped with uniquely-designed recipe cards.
For this project I designed folding recipe cards for you to print and trim out. I was inspired by the tartan pattern of a vintage tin recipe file box. You may choose to gift your cards blank or add your favorite baking recipes.

To assemble your gift, simply stack several recipe cards together and wrap them around a new or vintage rolling pin. Tie with a ribbon or wrap with matching printed-paper or a paper strip.

What is your favorite hostess gift to give or receive?
