Serving Idea: Individual Portioned Appetizers | Family Economics

By Tori Tait

The next time you’re deciding on what appetizer to serve your guests or which dish to bring to your next potluck, take a minute to rethink how you will serve it. I love the idea of ditching the go-to pasta bowl or veggie platter and opting for a more unique way to serve up crowd favorites. Serving portion-sized dishes is not only a fun dining twist for your guests; it also makes it much easier for them to enjoy the food while mingling at an event. There are many ways to portion and serve appetizers individually.

individual salads

Salads are great for serving up individually. You can pre-toss the salad with a light dressing or place the dressing bottles near the individual servings for guests to use themselves. When served up this way, salads make the perfect appetizer.

Yet another fun way to present an appetizer is to portion out your favorite pasta salad into mason jars! The great thing about serving pasta in mason jars is that you can easily make these a day in advance and even toss them into an ice chest if you are traveling to a potluck. Just don’t forget the forks!

individual veggie cups

Perhaps my favorite appetizer to serve up in small portions is veggies. In the bottom of a small cup, scoop 1−2 spoonfuls of hummus or dip, and toss your veggies on top for easy dipping. No more scooping out that dip and wasting plates!

What other appetizers would you serve up individually?
