Saving Energy

We all know the importance of recycling paper, cans and glass. But you might be surprised to learn how many other ways there are to reduce and recycle so that less and less goes into landfills.

FAQs

How much does SC Johnson recycle at its operations?

The actual amount changes from year to year based on the volume of product produced, but our manufacturing operations recycle over 75% of their solid waste, including wood, cardboard, paper, plastic, cans, metal, glass, batteries, light bulbs, mercury thermometers, used oil, grease from the cafeteria and more. We even try to reuse some of the materials we recycle. For example, our Bay City, Michigan plant, which produces Ziploc® brand bags, recycles scrap plastic and then buys it back once it’s been re-extruded into new resin pellets.

Are SC Johnson product containers recyclable?

It depends on the product, but many SC Johnson product containers can be recycled. Please check the packaging on the individual product that you have to find out about its recyclability.

How do you make products more environmentally friendly?

Lots of ways, from the packaging on the outside to the product on the inside. You can learn all about our Greenlist™ process for choosing better ingredients here.  In general, we look at products holistically, including how to minimize the packaging. For example, in 2009 we launched a lighter 32-ounce bottle for products like Windex® glass cleaner. The new bottle reduces consumer waste by a million pounds annually.

Are Ziploc® brand bags recyclable?
