SC Johnson's Philanthropic Contributions, Volunteerism Makes a Difference

SC Johnson doesn’t believe it is enough to invest simply in the research and development that builds the company's business. The company is also committed to investing in the communities where its employees live and work.

Over the past 10 years, SC Johnson has given more than $170 million in philanthropic contributions. Contributions target a wide array of needs, within the following categories, including:

  • Community development — investments to revitalize neighborhoods and contribute to quality of life through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity
  • Community enrichment — helping environmental, health and welfare, and cultural organizations such as Conservation International
  • Education, youth and family — improving childhood development, strengthening families and supporting education through organizations like Junior Achievement

The company supports its communities through significant financial contributions, providing five percent of pre-tax profits globally — nearly four times the average level of corporate giving.

SC Johnson’s subsidiary companies contribute an average of approximately 2 percent of pre-tax profits in support of organizations that improve local and global quality of life. In addition, the company makes itself accountable for offering time and expertise to local communities.

And philanthropy isn't just something that SC Johnson does — it's a state of mind for its employees too. For instance, its 2006 United Way campaign in the United States raised more than $892,000 from employees and retirees, with the company's dollar-for-dollar match resulting in nearly $1.8 million.
