Philanthropy

As a family company, SC Johnson has always believed that along with providing great products that make life better for families, it should have a positive impact on the communities where it operates and its employees live and work.

A Commitment to the Community

In the last 10 years, alone, SC Johnson has made thousands of charitable contributions in the United States. Contributions worldwide have exceeded $210 million.* The company also donates hundreds of thousands of branded products each year. SC Johnson people give generously of their time, as well.

Local and Global Grants

Over the years, SC Johnson has granted millions of dollars to local and global organizations. This includes hundreds of smaller grants every year, as well as occasional large grants to support major or multi-year programs. In the last five years alone, the company has made more than 1,250 small grants to support worthy initiatives.

On a larger scale, SC Johnson also makes larger contributions such as $1.7 million to Gateway Technical College in Racine, Wisconsin, to support expansion of their Integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (iMET) Center and underwrite skill development training for under-employed people in the Southeastern Wisconsin area, where the company’s global headquarters is located.

SC Johnson also typically provides more than $1 million annually in product donations through Feeding America to support non-profit organizations and disadvantaged families across the United States.

In 2013, SC Johnson announced a $5 million contribution to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., to support their “American Enterprise” exhibition and a state-of-the-art conference center.

Engaging Employees to Make a Difference

SC Johnson has ongoing programs to involve employees in philanthropic efforts in their communities. For example, the Educational Matching Gift program - launched in 1960 - matches employees’ and retirees’ financial gifts to accredited educational institutions, up to $6,000 per year for each employee or retiree.

In addition, in 2001, SC Johnson launched a Dollars for Doers program to recognize volunteer time. When an employee or retiree volunteers 40 hours of service to a non-profit in a fiscal year, SC Johnson donates $250 to that organization. Since its launch, the Dollars for Doers program has awarded more than $350,000 to hundreds of organizations.
