SC Johnson And Fisk Johnson Announce Donation To Gateway Technical College

Combined $700,000 Donation Will Support New Gateway Promise Program Low-Income Students

RACINE, Wis., Feb. 11, 2016 -- Today, SC Johnson along with Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, announced a combined donation of $700,000 to Gateway Technical College. This donation, both personal and company sponsored, will support Gateway Promise, a new initiative that will benefit low-income high school seniors in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties. The program aims to help students attain an associate degree or technical diploma. Mr. Johnson provided a personal donation of $400,000 to support the program. The combined donation offers the promise of higher education for hundreds of students in the three-county region for years to come.

"We're proud to support a program that will enable people to affect change and chart a new direction in their lives," said Johnson. "A quality education is critical to the success of our youth and our community," he added.

The Gateway Promise is designed to help fill the gap between financial aid grants received by students and the cost of attending Gateway Technical College. The program will provide educational opportunities that may not otherwise be available to some lower-income students.

"The entire region of Southeastern Wisconsin will benefit from the generous investment of more than $700,000 that SC Johnson and Fisk Johnson have made to support the Gateway Promise," said Dr. Bryan Albrecht, president and CEO of Gateway Technical College. "Their investment in youth and our future workforce serves as a new foundation for Gateway and our area school districts. The Gateway Promise fuels the inspiration and secures the hope that a college education is within the reach of every child's dream."

SC Johnson has been a long-standing partner with Gateway Technical College and its foundation for several decades. The company has donated more than $3.5 million to support Gateway Technical College, The Gateway Foundation and programs, including the Gateway to Careers Bootcamp.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the city of Racine currently ranks number one for highest unemployment in the state of Wisconsin. The Gateway Promise program intends to provide a positive impact on families in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties by providing new educational opportunities for young people. Current estimates indicate that up to 50 percent of the urban Racine and Kenosha students may qualify for this program.

To ensure the sustainability of the Gateway Promise program, the Gateway Technical College Foundation established the Gateway Promise Endowment Fund. The program will begin in fall of 2017.
