SC Johnson, City of Racine Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services and Racine Unified School District Partner to Prepare Racine Students for New School Year

Register Students Now for 13th Annual Racine Backpack and School Supply Giveaway

RACINE, Wis. (July 31, 2015) – With the start of another school year right around the corner, parents are already thinking about what school supplies their children will need. That means the 13th annual Racine back-to-school backpack giveaway for K – 12 students can’t be far behind. SC Johnson is sponsoring the giveaway for the sixth consecutive year with a $40,000 contribution.

“The impact of this donation from SC Johnson will be felt by many. Thousands of our students will have the supplies and backpacks they need for a fresh start to the new school year,” said Lolli Haws, Superintendent, Racine Unified School District. “We all recall how good it felt to have new things for that first day of school. Thanks to SC Johnson’s generous support, Racine students will once again have that opportunity.”

“We all know that school performance is critical to the success of our children,” said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President–Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability. “As a family company, SC Johnson is pleased to provide the tools to get students excited about and prepared to succeed in the new school year.”

Parents or guardians of students attending Racine Unified School district (RUSD) schools or Racine-based parochial schools should call or visit a Racine Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) community center (see below list) between Monday, August 3 and Friday, August 7 to register for the backpack giveaway. They will be asked for their student’s name, school name, grade entering in fall and telephone number. With this registration, backpacks and supplies will be reserved in the student’s name.

Backpacks and supplies will be sent to the student’s respective school and will be available for pick up at each school’s Open House (or during the first week of school). Supplies for parochial school students will be delivered to schools the week of August 24.

Over the past six years, SC Johnson has provided contributions for more than 20,000 backpacks containing age-appropriate school supplies.
