Winner of Out & Equal Employee Group of Year Award
SC Johnson Wins 2003 Out & Equal Employee Group of the Year Award
SC Johnson's Gay and Lesbian Business Council (GLBC) has been recognized as the winner of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Employee Group of the Year award at the U.S.'s preeminent LGBT conference, the 2003 Out & Equal Organizational Workplace Summit. The award, which was presented on October 2, recognizes an employee group that has a proven track record of success in advocating for LGBT equal rights in its workplace and the community at large. Previous winners of the annual award include AT&T, Walt Disney World and Shell. Other finalists for this year’s award were Kodak, Coors and Raytheon. "Diversity within our council has given us energy and helped us remain a driving force of positive change for LGBT employees at SC Johnson," said GLBC co-chair Gary Osifchin in an acceptance speech in Minneapolis. "We accept this award as recognition for all of our membership, who over the years have worked together to consistently set objectives and then passionately accomplish them." Founded in 1997, SC Johnson’s GLBC has a record of success in the workplace and community, including launching a Gay Awareness Week celebration and bringing in speakers such as Brian McNaught, Betty Degeneres, Bob Witeck, Mike Wilke, Rod Goelz and Mindy Morrow. It has also championed domestic partner benefits, developed “Gay 101” and “Gay 201” training programs that more than 150 employees have attended, and sponsored AIDS Walk Wisconsin and other events. The group has built awareness, increased inclusiveness and created positive change throughout SC Johnson. "Our GLBC has tirelessly championed resources and opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees in our company, and by doing so made a tremendous contribution for all employees," said President and CEO Bill Perez. "They are a very valued example of what makes this 117-year-old, family-owned company a truly inclusive family for all." For more information on this award, visit
