SC Johnson Donates to Local Law Enforcement and Fire Department Services

Funding will help staff Lakeside Community-Oriented Policing (COP) house and purchase new breathing equipment for South Shore Fire Department

RACINE, Wis., October 31, 2015 — SC Johnson is offering substantial funding to support valuable law enforcement and fire department services in the community. The company has committed to support approximately 40 hours per week of additional officer presence for a six-year period at the Lakeside Community-Oriented Policing (COP) house in the Village of Mount Pleasant. SC Johnson will also purchase 54 new breathing apparatuses to protect fire fighters at the South Shore Fire Department.

“We are very happy to give back to the courageous men and women who support our community through important law enforcement and fire department services,” Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “This equipment will help our fire fighters to safely fight fires, and the police department’s recent COP house at 23rd and Mead streets will be able to make an even more positive impact with an additional officer engaged with those in the community.”

“SC Johnson is a family company and, on behalf of the Village of Mount Pleasant, I can say that we are grateful to be part of the SC Johnson family,” said Gerald Garski, President, Mount Pleasant Village Board. “SC Johnson is deeply cares about the advancement of our community. The company recently provided the COP house and a Village park to the Lakeside Area.  And now, we get the great news that they are funding an additional police officer, as well as a grant to replace outdated breathing equipment for the South Shore Fire Department.”

SC Johnson funding to the Mount Pleasant Police Department will help add a second officer to the COP program which focuses on building healthy relationships between law enforcement and local residents. The funds will help ensure that the neighborhood benefits from expanded officer engagement during evenings and weekends.

“This is just another example of how committed SC Johnson is to our work and what a great partnership we enjoy together,” said Tim Zarzecki, Chief of Police, Mount Pleasant Police Department.

The South Shore Fire Department will receive 54 new self-contained breathing apparatuses, valued at $324,000. The equipment helps fire fighters breathe while working in dangerous environments. The apparatuses will replace equipment that is up to 18 years old.

“On behalf of the South Shore Fire Department we would like to express our appreciation to the Johnson Family and SC Johnson for the donation of the funds. The breathing apparatuses are a critical safety component of the protective equipment we use as firefighters,” said Robert Stedman, Fire Chief, South Shore Fire Department. “The South Shore Fire Department has an excellent working relationship with SC Johnson and this generous donation displays the commitment of SC Johnson to the community and to public safety.”

In addition, SC Johnson participated in Trinity Lutheran School’s ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on October 30 for the school’s new gym floor.  SC Johnson contributed earlier this year $40,000 for the new floor where many school activities take place such as lunch, physical activities and sporting events.
