SC Johnson Continues to Improve Lakeside Neighborhood with COP House, New Park and Habitat for Humanity Homes

Fisk Johnson Funds Construction of new Mount Pleasant Habitat for Humanity Home and Hands Keys to Homeowner

RACINE, Wis., December 22, 2015 — A Mount Pleasant mother and her two youngest children will enjoy the holidays in a new home. Today, SC Johnson Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson joined Habitat for Humanity organizers and community leaders for a home dedication and housewarming ceremony. Johnson presented the house keys to Tonia Grandy and her twins, who are moving into the new three-bedroom home in Mount Pleasant’s Lakeside Neighborhood. This home was supported by a personal donation from Fisk Johnson.

“It is an honor to help Tonia and her children turn this house into a home,” said Johnson. “Every family deserves a safe and happy foundation for their future, and we have been pleased to help Habitat for Humanity bring dreams like this to life for over three decades.”

“We wouldn’t have been able to make such a positive impact on the community without the generosity of the Johnson family,” said Jan Roland, Co-founder and Board President of Racine Habitat for Humanity. “Not only have they helped make this possible, but their support affirms what we do and motivates our volunteers every day.”

Today’s celebration marks a continued effort by SC Johnson to support Lakeside Neighborhood residents. The company recently provided funding to create a Community Oriented Policing (COP) house, which is home to an ongoing effort to build healthy relationships between law enforcement and local residents. SC Johnson also committed to support an additional full-time officer to ensure that the neighborhood benefits from expanded officer engagement during evenings and weekends.

The Grandy home and COP house are across the street from Polzin Park, a new community playground completed just months ago with support from SC Johnson. The park is named in honor of Richard Polzin, a Racine Community Outpost Board Member and former Racine Police Chief, who played a vital role in bringing the benefits of community policing to the area. The Grandy’s and their neighbors are also enjoying community garden constructed earlier this year with support from the company. The SC Johnson company has been a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity dating back to the 1980s, and together, the organizations have welcomed more than 30 families into new homes.

Construction work is set to begin on a second Habitat home in the Lakeside Neighborhood, also funded by SC Johnson. A family is expected to move into that location in 2017. Fisk Johnson is also planning to support a third Habitat home in the coming year.
