SC Johnson Donates $600,000 to Build a Stronger Community

The Family Company Supports Three Organizations Focused on Making Our Community a Great Place to Live and Learn

RACINE, Wis., Dec. 23, 2016 – SC Johnson, the maker of trusted household products like Glade®, Raid®, Scrubbing Bubbles® and Ziploc®, announced today the company has donated $600,000 to three organizations in Racine, all focused on building upon the community’s assets to make it an even better place to live.

“We’re pleased to support the efforts of these three local organizations dedicated to making this community a place we are proud to call home,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO. “The collective work of these groups is significant in making this a great area to live, learn and raise a family.”

Expanding St. Monica’s Senior Living Center
The first donation of $300,000 was delivered to St. Monica’s Senior Living Capital Campaign. The campaign for the Racine-based assisted living facility is funding a Memory Care Unit Expansion aimed at addressing the community need for quality care for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses.

SC Johnson’s donation will be used to help reach St. Monica’s Capital Campaign goal of $1.5 million. The Memory Care Unit Expansion will provide for the specialized assisted living needs of residents afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses.

St. Monica’s Senior Living has been serving Racine since 1971. It is located on 42 acres along the Root River, and is home to more than 90 residents. The facility was founded by the Sisters of St. Rita and is operated by an independent board of directors.

Building Homes with Habitat for Humanity
A $200,000 grant was delivered to Habitat for Humanity to build two homes in Racine’s Mount Pleasant area.  Habitat for Humanity provides affordable new home ownership to low income families who are living at less than 60 percent of the Racine County median. Homes are sold to families who will occupy the residence and make the no-interest, no-profit mortgage.

Racine Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

Supporting Technology at 21st Century Preparatory School
A $103,500 grant was provided to 21st Century Preparatory School to purchase 460 Chromebooks. This will allow every student in 5k to 8th grade to have a laptop for use.

Previously, the school only had 120 Chromebooks for student use. This has limited the amount of time that can be spent on computer learning activities.

21st Century Preparatory School prepares diverse children for access to the full array of life choices, including college and careers that develop their leadership competency. Individual differences are taken seriously and practices are developed to serve each child.

SC Johnson has provided more than $200 million in philanthropic support around the world over the last 10 years. Areas of giving include: community & economic development; education; environment & sustainability; social services; health & wellness and art; culture & the humanities.
