From Bobbie in NYC about Finding a Polish for Her 50-Year-Old Wood Floors
I'm looking for a wood polish for my NYC apartment's 50 yr old parque wooden floors. They are not sealed so any product with water will ruin the floor. Is the only thing out there a butcher's wax product? It's hard to apply and has such a toxic odor. I've been getting down on my hands and knees and applying liquid oily furniture polish which has a little less of an odor. It is difficult to apply. I have to spend time rubbing it in and off somewhat so that I won't walk it into my area rugs and stain them. The nice affect doesn't last long enough, unfortunately, after all that work. - Bobbie from NYC
Hi Bobbie from NYC – Thanks for stopping by the site with your question.
We have a few polishes/waxes that are designed for wood floors – but they are not recommended for floors that are unsealed. These polishes/waxes do not act as a sealant.
We’d suggest that you start by talking with a wood refinisher to see what he or she would recommend. Or, visit your local hardware or home products store to see if they can give you some advice.
Sorry we couldn’t be of more help!
