From Bette about Ziploc Brand Bags for Freezing Soup
Storing soups in Ziploc bags (rather than cartons) takes up less room in the freezer and lets me see them more clearly. Which bags are best for freezing soups? Can frozen "bagged" soups be heated in the microwave or in a pot of very hot (but not boiling) water? Any safety concerns about either freezing or reheating soups in Ziploc bags? - Bette in Georgia
Hey Bette, thanks for stopping by with your questions about Ziploc® Brand Bags. If you’re freezing foods – including soups – you’ll want to use our Ziploc® Brand Freezer Bags. They are made specifically for this application.
None of our Ziploc® Brand Bags, however, are designed to withstand the heat of boiling temperatures, so we do not recommend that they be used on the stovetop, in boiling water or in the oven.
Ziploc® Brand Freezer and Storage Bags may be used for microwave reheating and defrosting. When defrosting or reheating, always open the zipper one inch to vent. Be careful when reheating foods that are high in fat or sugar content (bacon, pastries), because these foods reheat very quickly and may exceed the softening point of the bags.
If you have any other questions about how to use Ziploc® Brand Bags, please give us a call at 1-800-558-5252.
