From DD, about SC Johnson Products and the Environment
"How many of your products actually are not harmful to humans, animals, or the environment? – DD from ACA"
Thanks for the question, DD. As a family company, we work every day to make products you can use with confidence in your home and around your family. This means we continually work to minimize our products’ impact throughout their lifecycle – including formulation, packaging, application and recycling/disposal. And, when used as directed on the label, our products are not harmful to humans, pets or the environment.
When we develop our products, we use our patented Greenlist™ process to analyze and rate the raw ingredients based on their impact on human and environmental health. This helps us to continuously improve the quality of our products and reduce their environmental impact.
Our commitment to doing what’s right for our families and environment goes further – we are also committed to operating responsibly. For example, since 2000 we’ve cut our global GHG emissions by 31.6 percent and just since 2005, we’ve cut GHG emissions in the U.S. by 29.1 percent.
In addition, we’re working toward sourcing 40 percent of our total electricity usage worldwide from renewable energy by 2011. We’re at 39.7 percent so far.
Plus, we were one of the first companies in our industry to broadly communicate our product ingredients – and our ingredient disclosure program is more extensive than others. So we’re making it easier for you to know what’s inside products, and use that information to make product choices.
You can read more about this and our other sustainability work in our 2010 Public Report, available here online.
We hope you’ll check it out – responsibility is something that’s been part of our company for over 100 years and we’re proud to share this info.
