Protecting the Ozone

Environmental commitment is nothing new for SC Johnson. For more than 120 years, the company has held steadfast to its environmental commitment and spirit of innovation. SC Johnson was a pioneer with the introduction of water-based aerosols in 1955.

Another example of how informed decisions lead to better products took place in 1975 when Sam Johnson made the groundbreaking, voluntary and unilateral decision to eliminate chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from SC Johnson products around the world because research had shown CFCs could harm the ozone layer.

The U.S. government didn't mandate eliminating CFCs for another three years, but SC Johnson made the change in 1975 because it was right for people, right for the planet.
