A Europe-Wide Commitment

In 2006, SC Johnson achieved Charter for Sustainable Cleaning membership with the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance (A.I.S.E.), a European-based international association of companies in the soaps, detergents and maintenance products industry.

By being an accredited member of this voluntary program, we're showing our commitment to applying sustainability thinking at every phase of the product lifecycle, starting with product design and continuing through manufacturing, use and disposal.

That's important, because like you, we want to ensure products have as little impact on our planet as possible.

As part of our membership, our European products will be able to display the Charter for Sustainable Cleaning logo. This will make it easy to spot that our products have been made with a priority on improvements in people's safety, environmental responsibility and other key aspects of sustainability, without compromising product performance.

Companies that market or distribute soaps, detergents, maintenance products or cleaning systems in the 25 European Union countries, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland are eligible to apply for the Charter. Members voluntarily commit to delivering continual improvements that will benefit human health and the environment by creating less waste, using fewer resources and emitting fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

And membership isn't a given! Every member must pass a Charter "Entrance Check," which is an on-site audit that verifies company practices adhere to Charter principles. Also, members must submit key environmental performance data annually, showing the results of their ongoing commitment in action.

The Charter underlines SC Johnson's long-standing commitment to formulating products using the most environmentally preferred ingredients — the foundation of which is the Greenlist™ process.
