Corporate Philanthropy, Employee Volunteerism: SC Johnson Helps to Make Communities Better

One principle drives all SC Johnson corporate giving and volunteerism – to help make lives better for families.
Since 1937, SC Johnson has donated five percent of pretax profits to charities.
H.F. Johnson, Jr., the third-generation leader of SC Johnson, used to say that in order to have a healthy environment inside a company, you have to have a healthy environment outside in the community. In other words, community leadership is not only the right thing to do to help make your community strong, it’s right for business too.
In 1976, this belief, along with other key tenets, was formalized in This We Believe, the statement of principles that guides our company to this day.
Since 1937, SC Johnson has given 5% of all pretax profits to charities every year to help make life better for families.
This belief at SC Johnson plays out in countless ways, from donations that support education, to efforts to fight insect-borne diseases, to programs that help the most vulnerable in our communities around the globe.
Since 1937, the company has given five percent of all pretax profits to charities every year. We’ve focused on contributing to support needs in the areas of community and economic development; social services; health and well being; education; sustainability and environmental programs; and art, culture and the humanities.
Plus, we also donate thousands of products each year, for example providing insect repellent and cleaning supplies after natural disasters.
In 1959, the company incorporated a charitable fund called the SC Johnson Fund. It was later renamed SC Johnson Giving, Inc. Its goal is to support non-profit organizations and programs that have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and the world at large.
Over the years, gifts from both SC Johnson and SC Johnson Giving, Inc. have provided millions of dollars to organizations that make the world better for families. A few examples in recent years are:
