Hands-on Science: Mr Muscle Science Lab Supports STEM Education in South Africa

By donating a state-of-the-art laboratory for students, SC Johnson South Africa helps STEM learning to inspire future scientists.
SC Johnson’s Mr Muscle Science Laboratory Project is one example of the company’s support of STEM education.
As a company that values the importance of science, we are always thrilled when SC Johnson corporate philanthropy can help support STEM skills for kids.

That is just what happened when SC Johnson South Africa partnered with the South African Medical and Education Foundation to open a science lab at Lethabong Secondary School in Soshanguve.
SC Johnson’s corporate philanthropy programme provides science lab and equipment for students.
SC Johnson South Africa’s donation to Lethabong Secondary School included the lab and lab equipment.
Previously, there was no dedicated laboratory space at Lethabong, limiting the opportunities for students interested to pursue careers in science, medicine or even education.

SC Johnson South Africa chose Lethabong as the first recipient of its Mr Muscle® Science Laboratory Project, which aims to create labs at disadvantaged schools, giving students the opportunity to learn in a more state-of-the-art environment for STEM education.

Lethabong principal Mmaphefo Malope told the South African Medical and Education Foundation that the new laboratory would not only benefit the children at the school but the community at large.

“Having a top quality laboratory will allow us to offer surrounding schools the opportunity to conduct experiments in a safe environment. This means that thousands of children will benefit from this project,” she said.
