SC Johnson highlights survey that shows significant changes in the disinfection habits of Brazilians

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, November 17, 2020–SC Johnson today announced results of a new survey that highlight important hygiene behavior changes among Brazilians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health agencies around the world have emphasized the need to disinfect surfaces to protect against COVID-19. The recent survey* conducted by the company found that 63 percent – nearly two out of three Brazilians – changed their disinfection habits in their homes during the pandemic.

“This survey shows that the coronavirus pandemic has changed people’s perceptions and habits about protecting themselves from viruses,” said Tatiana Ganem, General Manager of SC Johnson Brazil. “It is really important that people continue their disinfection habits as part of their regular cleaning routines to protect their families from viruses, germs and bacteria.”

Regional outlook

The survey shed further light on the changing behaviors of Brazilians from different regions of the country as a result of COVID-19. While disinfection practices have been important to help protect families from coronavirus, people are also focused on maintaining proactive routines in their homes.

The survey also reveals respondents are eager for more information about prevention of diseases caused by germs, bacteria and viruses. North region 

  • 66 percent of Brazilians from the North region have changed the frequency of their home disinfection to everyday during the pandemic versus 38% before the pandemic;
  • 18 percent of Brazilians from the North region consider that they need more information about prevention of diseases caused by germs, bacteria and viruses.


Northeast region 

  • 70 percent of Brazilians from the Northeast region have changed the frequency of their home disinfection to everyday during the pandemic versus 29% before the pandemic;
  • 21 percent of Brazilians from the Northeast region consider that they need more information about prevention of diseases caused by germs, bacteria and viruses.


Mid-West region 

  • 70 percent of Brazilians from the Mid-West region have changed the frequency of their home disinfection to everyday during the pandemic versus 31% before the pandemic;
  • 27 percent of Brazilians from the Mid-West region consider that they need more information about prevention of diseases caused by germs, bacteria and viruses.


Southeast region 

  • 58 percent of Brazilians from the Southeast region have changed the frequency of their home disinfection to everyday during the pandemic versus 24% before the pandemic;
  • 16 percent of Brazilians from the Southeast region consider that they need more information about prevention of diseases caused by germs, bacteria and viruses.


South region 

  • 58 percent of Brazilians from the South region have changed the frequency of their home disinfection to everyday during the pandemic versus 28% before the pandemic;
  • 32 percent of Brazilians from the South region consider that they need more information about prevention of such diseases.
