Working Toward Our Energy Goals
In 2021, SC Johnson completed the newest addition to our global headquarters, Waxbird Commons. Redesigned with a focus on sustainability and innovation, it’s helping reduce energy consumption at our headquarters by 2025.
Constructed from repurposed materials and incorporating wind, solar and geothermal renewable energy sources, the building was designed using a Sustainability Office Scorecard that will also guide goal setting and project planning at our other office locations.
The project also brought an innovative reuse opportunity: A portion of the pavement on campus is asphalt mixed with recycled low-density polyethylene plastic, creating an end market for nearly one thousand pounds of plastic film and maximizing the life of the pavement.
Waxbird Commons was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2022.
