Tanzania and SC Johnson Launch Partnership in Effort to Eradicate Malaria

SC Johnson Invests USD 1.5 Million in Interventions, Programs and Infrastructure to Fight Malaria

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 14th April 2023 – SC Johnson partners with the Government of Tanzania with the goal of eradicating Malaria through an investment of USD 1.5 million for malaria detection, treatment, and prevention in the highest malaria transmission councils of Tanzania. The US-based global manufacturer announced its official commitment alongside new Public Private Partnerships in the fight against malaria.

Tanzanian Minister for Health Hon. Ummy Mwalimu joined SC Johnson, and implementation partners the End Malaria Council and the Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation, to announce the next critical phase in joint efforts to combat malaria in Tanzania. The leading global manufacturer of household pest control products will direct USD 1.5 million to support the development of malaria prevention education programming, distribution of spatial repellents through public health channels, and construction of new community health clinics to support families in rural, hard-to-reach areas.

“The past few years have demonstrated the importance of Public-Private Partnerships in building resilient healthcare systems. Our President H.E Samia Suluhu Hassan and I are committed to ensuring that we attain a healthier and safer country that is free from malaria. To achieve this, we are cognisant of the fact that there is need for new investments, strategic partnerships across different sectors, a need for innovative technologies and advancement in strategies to scale disease prevention, surveillance, and early detection systems. I commend SC Johnson for their continued attention and commitment to this space. By partnering with the Government of Tanzania, together we are building capacities in each of these important areas and driving critical progress in the efforts to eradicate this deadly disease.” Said Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Tanzanian Minister for Health.

As part of this mission to give back, SC Johnson is also providing the company’s two innovative spatial repellents to Tanzania, Mosquito Shield™ and Guardian™, to at-risk communities in Tanzania at no cost.

“President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Government of Tanzania are making important progress, and we are delighted to work with them in our shared mission to eradicate malaria. Together, we can generate an even greater impact by helping more families access resources and knowledge to protect themselves from this preventable and treatable disease. I am hopeful that through this next phase of our partnership, we are one step closer to helping the people of Tanzania escape the threat of malaria and its devastating impacts for families.” said Fisk Johnson, the Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson.

The community health clinics SC Johnson has committed to build in Tanzania will help address malaria as well as other health issues like HIV/AIDS, maternal health, nutrition and access to clean water. Since 2018, the company has established 70 clinics globally across Rwanda, South Sudan, and Indonesia, serving more than one million people annually.
