Did you know Ziploc® brand bags have been helping families minimize spoilage and reduce food waste for more than 50 years? The first bags were developed in 1954, back when the brand was owned by The Dow Chemical Company. The re-closable zipper was added in the 1970s, with the colored zipper making its debut in the 1990s. Reusable containers came along in the 1990s, too.
SC Johnson acquired the Ziploc® brand in 1998, and we’ve been bringing innovation to the business ever since. For example, we introduced a double zipper for better bag sealing in 2006, and Easy Open Tabs™ in 2014. Today’s Smart Zip Plus® seal lets you feel, hear and see the bag close from edge-to-edge, helping preserve food and reduce food waste.
For containers, the Ziploc® brand created the One Press Seal, introduced nesting and stacking to help save space, and created Twist ‘n Loc® containers so you don’t have to worry about leaks or spills. All of our containers and bags are reusable, too.
To help families stay organized with larger items, we introduced Ziploc® Big Bags in 2005, followed by Soft Totes in 2009. With our 2012 acquisition of the Space Bag® brand, we gained even more ways to help save space and protect household items from common storage issues like dirt, insects and water.
Ziploc® brand bags and containers are more than just a way to keep food fresh and protect household items. They’re an invitation to get creative again and again as you organize your life and send food on the go.
Plus, limited edition partnerships feature your kids’ favorite characters and brands, giving them even more reasons to cheer. In 2018, these included bags featuring Disney Frozen designs, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War designs, Star Wars designs and NFL team designs.
That’s not to mention the fact that the Ziploc® brand works hard to continuously improve in all the ways you care about – including sustainability. Our bags are reusable and are made of recyclable material so you can turn them in eat any of the thousands of drop-off locations where you deposit plastic bags for recycling. All of our containers are recyclable, too. And, we’re leading the charge for curbside recycling.
So as you stay organized from snack time to study time, remember that the Ziploc® brand has your family in mind. With a little imagination, your easiest year yet is in the bag.
