Our Commitment on Waste Reduction

By 2050, the UN Environment Programme estimates the world will produce 3.8 billion tonnes of waste per year. That's a legacy we don't want for the landfills of today or for future generations, and it’s why waste reduction has been a priority at SC Johnson for decades.

Doing more with less.

Since 2000, we’ve been working to reduce waste from SC Johnson manufacturing sites. We try to eliminate waste before it's generated, and to redirect the waste that does occur, so it is reused, recycled or otherwise responsibly diverted.

We’ve been working to achieve and maintain zero manufacturing waste to landfill at 100% of SC Johnson manufacturing sites, and expect that by 2025 all of our manufacturing sites will meet that goal.

A look at our progress

93% of SC Johnson-owned manufacturing sites are now zero manufacturing waste to landfill operations. This means they divert waste through reuse, recycling, repurposing or incineration, with efforts to use incineration with heat and/or energy recovery.

I’m proud of the hard work of SC Johnson people at our manufacturing plants all around the globe who have stepped up to help protect the environment for future generations.

Reducing plastic waste, too

While this page focuses on our efforts to reduce general waste from our operations and offices, SC Johnson also has extensive efforts underway to help solve the complex challenges of plastic waste in our business and the world at large.
