The Choices We Make

We're diligent about making sure our ingredient choices are informed by the latest science and our own high standards. Our commitment to transparency means we communicate about these choices and the standards that guide us.

Restricted Use Materials

We stay updated on industry information, government regulations, the latest scientific studies and consumer concerns about chemicals to maintain a list of ingredients we don’t use or use only in very small amounts because they don’t meet our standards. We review this list regularly to ensure it captures any new science or changes in government policies or regulations.

SC Johnson Fragrance Palette

We maintain a palette of materials that have been screened and are approved for use in our fragrances. Because our standards are high, this list represents only about 40% of the chemicals allowed by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA).

Skin Allergens

Since 2017, SC Johnson has provided information about skin allergens that may occur in our products as part of our commitment to transparency. We analyzed about 3,000 data sets to determine our list of potential skin allergens and be transparent in disclosing them. It includes materials identified in country regulatory lists, dermatology clinic data, inputs from the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety and more. We use ingredients with potential skin allergens only in amounts so low they would be highly unlikely to create a new skin allergy or trigger a skin allergy reaction.

We’re committed to telling the whole story about the ingredient choices we make.
