St. Lucy Parish School, the REAL School and J.I. Case High School Tip the Scales, Donating a Combined 30,000 Pounds of Food to the Racine County Food Bank

Racine-area schools donated 30,000 lbs of food following a challenge from SC Johnson and speaker Inky Johnson.

Three Racine schools that gathered the most food received donations for their athletic programs from SC Johnson.

RACINE, Wis., April 7, 2017 – SC Johnson, the maker of trusted household products like Glade®, Raid®, Scrubbing Bubbles® and Ziploc® today announced the three winners of its “Empty the Bucket” food drive challenge between participating Racine-area schools. J.I. Case High School was recognized as the high school winner and the REAL School and St. Lucy Parish School prevailed as the public and parochial/independent middle school winners of the contest. Each school received a $7,500 donation for their athletic program from SC Johnson.

As a result of the food drive, Racine-area schools donated a total of 30,000 pounds of food, which will allow the Racine County Food Bank to provide more than 21,200 meals for those in need. The food drive was sparked by motivational speaker Inky Johnson’s February visit to Racine and his philosophy of challenging yourself to “Empty the Bucket” by giving your best every day.

“It’s evident by the overwhelming success of the food drive that Racine youth were inspired by Inky’s message of perseverance and determination,” said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President - Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, SC Johnson. “It’s our hope that the food drive is the start of even bigger things to come as Racine youth continue to push themselves to be better and to do better.”

Inspired by SC Johnson’s commitment to make the communities they are located in a better place, the food drive was launched through the message of motivational speaker Inky Johnson. Inky is a former star cornerback for the University of Tennessee who shared his story of overcoming a career-ending injury through hard work, fortitude and “Emptying the Bucket” every day. In addition to the in-schools contests, the entire community was invited to help “Empty the Bucket” and support the Racine County Food Bank by placing non-perishable food items in the specially marked buckets located in Racine-area Pick ‘n Save and Piggly Wiggly stores.

The Racine County Food Bank always welcomes food donations as well as volunteer efforts to help in their cause. For more information, those interested in donating or volunteering can email or call: info@racinecountyfoodbank.org or 262-632-2307.
