Helping Kids Be Excited about School

With 15 stops across 11 cities, the 100 Days of Reading tour brought school supplies to 20,000 students.

Research shows that children who aren’t reading proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school*. Throughout the summer of 2021, SC Johnson partnered with Save the Children to help kids across the country be prepared and get excited for the new school year. (And a 2022 tour is now underway!)

The 2021 “100 Days of Reading” bus tour across America brought school supplies, educational materials, food and personal care products to families in need. Each stop featured educational activities to help create a positive foundation for a successful school year.

Among other activities, SC Johnson sponsored a game called “The Greatest Catch,” which taught the importance of recycling plastic waste through a carnival-like fishing game. Students caught plastic bottles in a pool of water and turned the collected plastic into art to take home.

The tour made 15 stops across the U.S., passing out backpacks of school supplies and helping create a positive foundation for a successful school year.
The 20,000 backpacks distributed on the tour included school supplies, educational materials and personal care products like Babyganics® hand sanitizer and sunscreen.
