Supporting the Great Lakes Malaria Initiative

Ninety-four percent of malaria cases in 2019 occurred in Africa. SC Johnson is taking action to help.

East Africa is one of the world’s most vibrant regions. It’s known for its natural beauty, wildlife and rich culture. But like so much of Africa, it also faces tremendous public health challenges including the devastating impact of malaria.

That’s why in 2021, SC Johnson joined partners from the East Africa Community to announce a landmark partnership: the Great Lakes Malaria Initiative.

With the Society for Family Health Rwanda, the EAC Secretariat, EAC country governments and other partners, we are working together to improve access to interventions for those at risk from malaria.

The Great Lakes Malaria Initiative targets these areas:

South Sudan
Kenya
Uganda
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Rwanda
Burundi
Tanzania
Zanzibar

SC Johnson will distribute repellent products, including our innovative Mosquito Shield™, as well as supporting entomology research and providing preventative education for 60 million people. This builds on SC Johnson’s history of innovation and creating access in the malaria space.
