SC Johnson Announces Opening of Interactive ‘Recycling League’ Workshop at Granja Las Américas
- Starting September 29, Granja Las Américas will host an educational workshop that aims to inspire children in waste separation and recycling, focusing on the urgent need to promote awareness of a more sustainable world from an early age.
- Research conducted by the company on sustainability in Mexican households shows that more than 60% of children participate in recycling within the home.
- Millennial parents (born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s) engage their kids the most in sustainable actions (48%), compared to parents of other generations (22%).
MÉXICO CITY, México, September 29th, 2023 – SC Johnson, a global manufacturer of household consumer brands such as Windex®, Duck® and Mr Muscle®, is partnering with Granja Las Américas for the "Recycling League" workshop. This interactive, educational workshop is designed to inspire children of Generation Alpha (those born 2010 and later) to help take care of the planet and become active participants in waste separation and recycling practices.
In Mexico, 42 million tons of waste are generated each year, equivalent to a volume of 175 times that of the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacán.1 The "Recycling League" workshop seeks to educate and empower children as advocates for change and promote responsible consumption practices.
The workshop is especially designed to impact children born after 2010, whose age group (60%) shows a greater inclination toward adopting recycling practices at home, according to a study conducted by SC Johnson on sustainability in Mexican households.2 The same study revealed that up to 99% of Mexican households express concern for environmental care and that parents from the Millennial generation (48%) involve their children more in sustainable actions compared to parents of other generations (22%). Aware of this reality, SC Johnson, in collaboration with Granja Las Américas, has developed the “Recycling League” workshops as a playful and engaging educational approach to connect with this audience.
The “Recycling League" is presented as a space for learning and exploration, where children not only acquire knowledge about the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – but are also inspired to take an active role in helping to protect the planet. Through an educational journey divided into three missions, children can join the heroes created by SC Johnson to face the environmental challenges of today's world: Recycle Girl, Guardian Reduce and Captain Reuse. The fun and interactive characters will emphasize sorting waste properly, reducing single-use consumption and reusing materials to give them new life!
