Corporate Activism: The Consumer Goods Forum, The Charter for Sustainable Cleaning
At SC Johnson, we believe in being leaders within our industry and participating in action for a better world. One example of this is our membership in The Consumer Goods Forum, another is our participation in the American Cleaning Institute's Charter for Sustainable Cleaning.
The Consumer Goods Forum
The Consumer Goods Forum is a global network of CEOs and senior leaders from more than 400 retailers, manufacturers, service providers and other stakeholders. The Forum’s vision is “Better lives through better business,” and we’re proud to be a part of it. Our Chairman and CEO, Fisk Johnson, is a member of The Consumer Goods Forum Board of Directors.
Among SC Johnson’s activities as a member of the Forum:
We participate in the Global Social Compliance Programme, a cross-industry platform that brings together major retailers, brands and stakeholders to work collaboratively on harmonizing the landscape of compliance standards while supporting efforts on capacity building at the supplier level. SC Johnson is helping lead work on Reference Models for the Implementation of the Environmental Module.
The goal of this work is to develop joint approaches in environmental compliance monitoring and capacity building. To do this, we are building replicable and scalable models to implement the environmental requirements and methodology provided by the GSCP to manage factories’ performance and impact (the GSCP Environmental Module). In collaboration with other companies and stakeholders, we’re working to create a comprehensive toolkit for suppliers to achieve environmental stewardship, from compliance to leadership.

We also are a contributor to the Global Packaging Project and its Global Protocol on Packaging Sustainability 2.0, which was launched in September 2011.
And, we committed to the Forum’s Resolution on Deforestation that aims to help mobilize resources to help achieve zero net deforestation by 2020. The Forum Board passed the resolution on deforestation in November 2010. As a user of relatively small amounts of palm oil and its derivatives, SC Johnson is committed to helping achieve this goal. Our commitments related to responsible sourcing for paper, pulp, packaging and palm oil can be found here.
