SC Johnson Receives World CSR Congress Corporate Affairs Leadership Award

The award was announced at the World CSR Congress’ 4th Global CSR Excellence and Leadership Awards in Taj Lands End, Mumbai

RACINE, Wis., (February 17, 2015) – The World CSR Congress is pleased to announce that SC Johnson is the recipient of their Corporate Affairs Leadership Award. Awardees were chosen by the World CSR Congress Jury and Council of Board Members.

“On behalf of the World CSR Congress, we would like to congratulate SC Johnson for their excellence in corporate affairs,” said Dr. R. L. Bhatia, Founder, World CSR Day. “SC Johnson has been a long proponent of responsible business and we’re excited to be able to celebrate their accomplishments today.”

The World CSR Congress, guided by sustainability executives, experts and media from around the globe, seeks to spread the message of responsible business. The Congress shares best practices in CSR and sustainability, and awards organizations and individuals that are making a difference in society.  SC Johnson accepted the honor today at the 4th annual Global CSR Excellence and Leadership Awards in Taj Lands End, Mumbai, where leaders from more than 130 countries are gathered for discussions around this years’ theme, “Connecting Minds: Creating The Future.”

“We are humbled to be recognized by the World CSR Congress for our significant leadership in corporate affairs,” said Kelly Semrau, Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability at SC Johnson. “As a family company, we believe that we must work to have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and the world at large through our ongoing efforts to advance and refine responsible business practices.”

For more than two decades, SC Johnson has set five-year environmental goals, including the latest set of goals which targets progress by 2016. SC Johnson has already met two of these goals: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from global manufacturing sites 50.5 percent since 2000 versus a goal of 48 percent and reducing global manufacturing waste 71 percent since 2000 versus a goal of 70 percent.

In addition to its sustainability efforts, SC Johnson has exceeded more than $220 million in philanthropic contributions over the past 10 years. In 2013, the company also launched a new campaign that globalizes their insect-borne disease awareness program, and expanded its partnership with USAID and The Borlaug Institute to help Rwanda pyrethrum farmers boost incomes and standards of living.
