Racine, Wisconsin, (June 5, 2015) – SC Johnson’s manufacturing facility in Toluca, Mexico, received the Environmental Excellence Award today from Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente, PROFEPA). The award is PROFEPA’s highest environmental honor and recognizes companies which have made a sustained effort in environment improvement and shown a commitment to performance. It was given to SC Johnson at a ceremony with the National Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Juan José Guerra Abud.

SC Johnson has strong global record of environmental leadership at its manufacturing facilities.
- The company has reduced waste by more than 71 percent at global manufacturing sites since 2000, as a ratio to production.
- Eight of SC Johnson’s manufacturing facilities are zero landfill
- Greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced 50.5% from manufacturing sites since 2000, indexed to production.
In recognizing the company, PROFEPA highlighted the environmental excellence at the company’s Toluca manufacturing facility. The Toluca factory gets 85 percent of its energy from green sources (wind power), has reduced landfill waste by 20 percent and water consumption by 16 percent. It also conducts yearly forestation projects to support the protection of local forests and wildlife (fish and native butterflies). The facility provides SC Johnson products such as Ziploc, Glade, Duck, Mr Muscle and Raid to Mexico, the U.S. and other markets around the world.

The Environmental Excellence Award is based on the voluntary program of Environmental Audits from the Mexican government, and is given to companies who show strong consistency in the extensive biannual onsite evaluations. SC Johnson has participated in this audit since 1994, and has received the Clean Industry Certification each year since for demonstrating good performance and compliance with all environmental laws.
SC Johnson was also recently awarded a Gold Medal from the World Environment Congress for its comprehensive, company-wide focus on sustainability and transparency initiatives. It was the second time SC Johnson received the Gold Medal, the first being in 1994.
