RACINE, Wis., Dec. 22, 2016 – Saturday, December 17th was the busiest collection day of the year for the Racine Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. This year, it was also the second highest kettle collection day in history for the organization.
Due to the importance of collections on that date, SC Johnson, the maker of trusted household products like Glade®, Raid®, Scrubbing Bubbles® and Ziploc®, agreed to match donations. Volunteers rang their bells at 22 merchant sites around the area and brought in more than $16,000. Thanks to the community’s generosity, the company will provide a matching $16,000 donation to the organization.
“I am inspired by the community’s support this year for the Racine Salvation Army,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO. “To help the organization end this campaign with a strong finish, I will personally match the total for donations made on Saturday, December 24th.”
The Salvation Army hopes to raise $290,000 through this year’s campaign. To date, they have raised $225,000.
There’s still time to participate. Red kettles will be located at merchant sites around the community through Christmas Eve. Donations can also be sent by mail through the end of the year.
The annual red kettle campaign supports programs and activities that help disadvantaged families with food, clothing and keeping a warm place to live. The Salvation Army also operates community center programs for kids and seniors.
SC Johnson has provided more than $200 million in philanthropic support around the world over the last 10 years. Areas of giving include: community & economic development; education; environment & sustainability; social services; health & wellness and art; culture & the humanities.
