Racine, Wis., October 26, 2016 - SC Johnson, the maker of trusted household products like Glade®, Raid®, Pledge® and OFF!®, announced that the family company participated in the Community College Convening at the White House in Washington, D.C. today. The event was hosted by Dr. Jill Biden and senior White House administration officials.
The Convening highlighted best practices to strengthen community college reform and partnerships to make progress on the shared goals of college opportunity and college affordability. Attendees—including college presidents, policymakers, elected officials, business and organization leaders, researchers and students—described effective solutions that can improve college-readiness strategies and provide pathways to a college degree and a good-paying job.
In collaboration with Gateway Technical College, SC Johnson highlighted the company’s support of Gateway’s Bootcamp, an intensive 14-20 week training program in a variety of skills designed to meet the needs of local employers and changing industry trends. Since 2012, SC Johnson has donated approximately $2.5 million to fund and expand the training program.
“There is a clear need in today’s economy to improve college accessibility for students in order to increase qualified applicants for employers,” said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President - Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability. “We are impressed with the impact Gateway’s Bootcamp has on this important issue and are proud to help bridge students and businesses in the communities in which we work.”
