RACINE, Wis., December 7, 2020 – SC Johnson, an industry-leading manufacturer of household cleaning and other consumer and professional products, today announced all of its trigger bottle products in Europe are now made using 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The bottles, used in a range of SC Johnson products such as Mr Muscle®, Pledge®, Pliz®, and Pronto® are now covered with a new perforated sleeve, which can be easily removed by consumers, helping to increase recyclability. Typically, sleeves that cover plastic bottles contain ink and have low melting temperatures, which can pollute municipal waste recycling streams.
“SC Johnson teams in Europe and around the world remain relentlessly focused on reducing plastic waste and our environmental footprint,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “By increasing our use of 100% PCR and offering a removable plastic sleeve, we want to drive increased recyclability and help create a more circular plastic economy.”
The new bottles reflect SC Johnson’s continued progress in tackling the plastic pollution crisis. Some of the ways the company is increasing the use of PCR and removing excess packaging from products include:
SC Johnson also works closely with several partner organisations to support circular plastic economy models and keep plastic out of landfills and the wider environment. The company is a signatory of The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, an initiative led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme to establish a common vision for companies to help create a circular economy for plastics.
