Fact Sheet: SC Johnson Diversity and Inclusion

For more than 25 years, SC Johnson has formally recognized and supported diversity and inclusion at our company.
SC Johnson prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, age, ability or any other factor that is not job related.
At SC Johnson, we believe cultivating diversity and inclusion is fundamental to how we hire, retain and inspire the best people. We make diversity and inclusion a priority today and for the future.

A Long-Term Commitment to Respect

We launched our first formal diversity and inclusion initiative in 1992, when we established our Office of Diversity to recognize and support the unique backgrounds, talents and abilities of SC Johnson people.

Commitment Starts at the Top

Our Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson explains, “We’re a global business, with people from every culture, ethnicity, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age and ability. Our consumers are as diverse as the entire world, and so are SC Johnson people. We recognize the breadth of human experience, and we work to celebrate it.”

How We Define “Diversity”

Diversity is the valuable differences between people that give SC Johnson, collectively, a broader understanding of each other, our consumers and the world around us. These differences range from apparent distinctions such as gender, age and ethnicity, to less apparent ones such as personal habits, educational background, religion and work location.

How We Define “Inclusion”

Inclusion is creating a work environment where all opinions are valued and where talent is recognized, cultivated and rewarded. We believe in the respectful treatment of all people, and SC Johnson corporate policy requires that all people at SC Johnson companies around the globe be treated in a fair, just and impartial manner. The company has zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment.

SC Johnson prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, age, ability or any other factor that is not job related. Around the world, corporate employment policy requires that each SC Johnson company will provide equal employment opportunities for all qualified employees and applicants. Only job-related factors – such as job performance, training, experience or factors that are required to properly perform the job – may be used as a basis for employment selection.

A Culture of Support

SC Johnson’s six employee-driven business councils in the United States provide support and networking opportunities such as mentoring, community outreach, career development and cultural awareness activities. They are:

  • The Abilities First Business Council
  • The Business Council of Asian Professionals
  • Ignite – Supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees
  • The Hispanic Business Council
  • The African-American Business Council
  • The Women’s Business Council
